As the NFTE Chicago 10th Annual Citywide Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge got underway, it became clear that this may have been the finest group of young business students in the competition’s history. Said NFTE Chicago Program Director Michael Davis, “The quality of the students’ plans was outstanding and judges commented on the difficult time they had choosing winners from each competition room.” On May 1st, semi-finalists presented their business plans to judges from a host of the top businesses around Chicago, including Mastercard, Ernst and Young, and Microsoft at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business. The winning semi-finalists moved on to the Finals to compete for a chance to advance to the NFTE National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in New York City.
That the Chicago students impressed as they did is truly amazing given the lack of access to technology resources in their schools and homes. Unfortunately, our microproject was not able to meet our goal of purchasing 500 USB flash drives for the challenge’s entrants, in order to facilitate the easy storage and transfer of their business plans. The money donated was still used in support of the Chicago Citywide Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge, and the students exceeded expectations without the intended USB drives. Thank you for your support in helping us stage such an inspiring event!
