Summary

This project will provide curriculum development, educational materials, internet access, training for trainers, and specialized institutional strengthening for the local partner's center. The above activities will support training in job-readiness and information technology for 100 young people in Veracruz and Jalisco, Mexico.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Despite the challenges of the global recession and violence, Mexico's population has, on the aggregate, prospered thanks to its democratic institutions, sound monetary policy, its natural resources, and its favorable geographic location. Nevertheless, many Mexicans still suffer from extreme poverty., Financial literacy stands to play an important role in fostering economic development and in alleviating poverty by helping beneficiaries save and invest for the future.

How will this project solve this problem?

Recognizing the important opportunities to foster economic and social development through financial literacy and ICT training, we proposes to leverage financial and in-kind support from private and public sector donors to integrate financial literacy and ICT skills development into the curricula of four vocational training centers in Mexico. We envision that 2 POETA Centers reached by this porject will train 100 students in ICT, financial literacy, and workforce readiness.

Potential Long Term Impact

The project aims to improve economic opportunities of youth at risk in Mexico through skills training, awareness building, financial literacy, knowledge sharing, and other concrete tools that match skilled youth with prospective employers offered through the POETA program.
