Summary

This project provides transitional home, job internships and business incubation to young unemployed graduates and entrepreneurs, especially from deprived homes. We provide a safe haven with workplace resources in a real-time business environment. We train them in a practical hands-on way for the world of work and self-employment. Alumni develop business ideas, plans, source funding and start a business or develop resumes, search for and write applications for jobs with our support.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

There are over 68,000 unemployed graduates in Ghana today with an estimated 20,000 more being produced every year and parents have to continue supporting them under severe economic conditions. Youth unemployment is a major contributor to increases in homelessness, urban migration, drug abuse, unwanted pregnancies, single parenthood, broken homes, hooliganism and crime. This situation retards both individual and national development and can threaten peace and security.

How will this project solve this problem?

The project provides a transitional safe haven with workplace resources, a real-time business environment (including internship and incubation) and continuous mentoring and counseling. It has 6 integrated programmes for confidence building, capacity building, nurturing and mentoring, combined with career, business and lifestyle counseling. These hands-on programmes sharpen the attitude, knowledge and skills set of participants, making them employable and well prepared for self-employment.

Potential Long Term Impact

2000-5000 unemployed graduates with employable skills getting into gainful employment annually, nationwide. 1000-2500 budding entrepreneurs with improved business skills setting up successful businesses annually, nationwide. Increased advocacy for mandatory linkages between industry and education sector to match market needs; Creation of more jobs through funding of young entrepreneurs. Beneficiaries are the graduates, parents, private/public sector, government and the national economy.
