This program will train 200 at-risk young people between the ages of 12 and 29 in computer science, internet use and innovation in order to promote skills development and job placement, while distancing them from unproductive activities. This innovative program provides services through a mobile classroom that visits the most vulnerable and dangerous neighborhoods in Hermosillo, Mexico. For this reason, a extended number of youth benefit from this innovative project.
Sonora is a state with high levels of crime. It is the state with the tenth highest violent crime rate and 49% of violent crimes are committed by young people between the ages of 18 and 29. Moreover, these crimes not only affect the victims and their families, but young people's social circle as well. The culture of crime and violence causes unemployment in the area to increase continuously.
The program Mobile Spaces for Youth (EPJM, from its initials in Spanish) reduces the technology gap by providing access to knowledge through the use of information and communications technologies. Thanks to the joint venture of POETA and the Mexican Institute for youth, the Trust has provided computer training, particularly in internet applications, that will significantly increase learning opportunities and broaden the horizons of this community.
Access to computer technology trhough a mobile classroom will level the playing field and help youth in crime zones to increase their chances for success in our information-driven world. This program's objective is to distance youth from unproductive and dangerous activities, while providing an excellent platform for further education.
