This project ensures adolescent girls have a right to control their own sexuality and reproduction. The adolescence girls get education and support. She builds self-esteem and makes decisions based on facts, not myths, pressures or social opinion.
Every year, close to 14 million adolescent girls give birth. The 2005 Adolescent Fact Sheet from UNFPA states: Based on data from 56 countries, girls aged 15 to 19 from the poorest groups are three times more likely than their better-off peers to give birth in adolescence, and bear twice as many children. In Kenya, over 40% of these girls have no formal education while 18 % are those who are in primary school.
This project trains adolescent girls about their rights to control their own sexuality and reproduction. The project provides education, reproductive health services, builds self-esteem and ensures the girls make decisions based on facts, not myths, pressures or social opinion.
The project will educate 80 orphan adolescent and at risk girls to realize their full potential and break the cycle of poverty at family level.
I grew up as an orphan without family support and without knowledge of sexual and reproductive health. This project has educated, supported and helped me complete my secondary education.
